About Project


When needing an example, refer to the Texas page. The Texas page will serve as the "master example" for all other pages.

At the Top of your page type your state name and put it in "Heading 1" size font. For each subsection, the topic should be typed in "Heading 3" size font.

When downloading files for the website, be sure to follow a common naming convention. All files will be named by their state, followed by an underscore, and then the type of image. Examples are listed below:

  • texas_flag
  • texas_map
  • texas_seal

State Maps


  1. Go to http://www.nationalatlas.gov/printable/reference.html#list
  2. Scroll down to the state which you are working on
  3. We will be using the reference map for our project. Click on "Preview Map" next to Reference Map.
  4. A new window will open containing the state map.
  5. Right click the map
  6. Click "Save Image As..."
  7. Choose the appropriate destination to save your file to
  8. Be sure to properly name your file (texas_map)
  9. Click save

Inserting Maps...

  1. Click the Insert Images and Files icon in the tool bar of the wiki editor (the box with the palm tree in it)
  2. Upload your file
  3. Be sure to put the following text below your map:

Info for the "About" Section



This information can be obtained ftom http://usa.usembassy.de/travel-states.htm . From this page click on the state which you are working on. You can simply "cut and paste" the state map into your wiki page. Be sure to cite the specific page from which you obtained your information. An example is shown below:

Info for the "Symbols" Section



These images will be obtained from Wikipedia. In the search box type in the name of your state. Once you are at the article on the state you are working on, the state seal and flag should be on the right side of the page. Click on each one and download them and insert them into the page in the same manner followed to insert the map.

Be sure to insert the background information on your flag. You can find the info for your specific state by visiting the following website:

This info can be "cut and paste" into your wiki. Be sure to cite your source.

Info for the "State Facts" Section



The following information needs to be included in this section:
  • Capital
  • Nickname
  • Motto
  • Statehood (be sure to include the state's number)
  • Land Area (be sure to include rank)
  • Bird
  • Flower
  • Tree
  • Song

This information can be obtained by visiting http://bensguide.gpo.gov/3-5/state/. Be sure to cite the specific page from which you obtained this information.

Population & Cities



  • Population (Use the 2008 figure and be sure to include rank)
  • Largest City
  • Second Largest City
  • Persons Per Square Mile

This information can be obtained from http://www.census.gov/schools/facts/. Click on the state you are working on to be taken to the page containing the appropriate information. Be sure to cite the specific page from which you obtained your information.
